Het huidige schoolgebouw van het Sint-Pauluscollege in Wevelgem is ontworpen door de gevierde Kroatische architect Vjenceslav Richter. Het diende als het nationale paviljoen van Joegoslavië tijdens de Wereldtentoonstelling 1958 in Brussel. Het paviljoen werd bekroond met de Gold Star Award als mooiste van alle buitenlandse deelnemers. Na de Wereldtentoonstelling werd het aangepast door architect Jan De Jaegere en heropgericht als schoolgebouw.
De Estse visueel artieste Ingel Vaikla, die in Brussel woont, bracht het Joegoslaviëpaviljoen op prachtige wijze in beeld. Met ‘Papagalo, What’s the time?’ ging ze op vraag van Leiedal de dialoog aan over het belang van dit modernistisch erfgoed. De film volgt kinderen die Joegoslavische kinderspelen spelen. Hun bewegingen accentueren de dynamiek en openheid van de unieke architectuur. Deze filmische interpretatie is een sterk staaltje visuele kunst dat voor de huidige gebruikers van het gebouw een interessante eye-opener is, alsook voor liefhebbers van modernistische architectuur en een breder publiek.
‘Papagalo, what’s the time’ is nog tot 10 april 2022 te bewonderen op een toonaangevende internationale expo in het voormalige postgebouw van Kaunas, Europese Culturele Hoofdstad 2022.

Expo in Kaunas, Culturele Hoofdstad van Europa 2022
Momenteel is 'Papagolo, What's the time' te bewonderen op de toonaangevende internationale tentoonstelling Modernism for the Future 360 365 in het voormalige Postgebouw van Kaunas (Litouwen). De expo werd plechtig geopend door de premier en de minister van cultuur van Litouwen naar aanleiding van de inhuldiging van Kaunas als Europese Culturele Hoofdstad 2022.

The current school building of the Sint-Pauluscollege in Wevelgem was designed by the celebrated Croatian architect Vjenceslav Richter. The building was designed as the national pavilion of Yugoslavia for the 1958 World Fair in Brussels. During the World Fair the pavilion was awarded the gold star award as it was considered the best pavilion among foreign country participants. After the World Fair the building was reconstructed in Wevelgem and adapted by architect Jan De Jaegere to make it function as a school building.
Brussels based, Estonian visual artist Ingel Vaikla has portrayed the Yugoslavia pavilion in a magnificent way. With ‘Papagalo, what’s the time?’ she ventured into a dialogue on the importance of this modernist heritage, at the request of regional developer Leiedal. The film follows children playing Yugoslavian children’s games, their movements accentuating the dynamics and openness of this unique piece of architecture. This cinematic interpretation is a masterpiece of visual art and an interesting eye opener for the current users of the building, modernist architecture lovers and a broader public.
‘Papagalo, What’s the time’ is free to admire until 10th April 2022 in European Cultural Capital Kaunas at a vanguard international exposition in the former postal building.
